This wine pairs well with a variety of dishes, from cheeses to grilled venison. Our favorite pairing is a roasted rack of Kiwi lamb with fresh rosemary and duck fat potatoes – absolutely sublime!
Mount Fisthail Nelson Pinot Noir
TECHNICAL NOTES
The grapes were harvested, placed in small, open-top fermenters, and hand-plunged daily. After fermentation, the wine sat on its skins for an extra 21 days, then pressed into old French barriques for eight months before bottling.
TASTING NOTES
A rich, ripe Pinot Noir, exuding aromas and flavours of dark cherry, berry fruit and savoury characters. A generous, concentrated palate exhibits well-integrated fine tannins and delivers a wonderful persistence of flavour.
At Mount Fishtail Wines, we’re deeply rooted in our Marlborough home, where crafting outstanding wines goes hand in hand with our respect for the environment and our community. As a proud SWNZ-accredited producer, we follow New Zealand Wine Grower’s sustainability standards, undergoing yearly audits to ensure we’re always on the right track.
We believe in using chemicals only when absolutely necessary, and we’re careful to protect the beneficial insects that help keep our vineyard healthy. If insecticides are needed, we apply them selectively and with a strong focus on managing resistance. This mindful approach helps us nurture vine and soil health while encouraging biodiversity across our vineyard.
Our vineyard practices are as much about looking after the land as they are about growing top-quality grapes. We use smart, sustainable techniques, like combining tractor tasks into a single pass to reduce our footprint. In winter, we let sheep do the mowing, manage weeds, and naturally fertilize the soil, cutting down on chemicals. We also mulch vineyard prunings, returning them to the earth to enrich the soil.
At Mount Fishtail Wines, our commitment to sustainability extends from the vineyard right through to our winery, where we’re focused on reducing our environmental impact every step of the way.
We’re all about smart energy use, employing energy-efficient equipment and tapping into renewable energy sources to keep our carbon footprint as light as possible.
Waste doesn’t go to waste here. We compost grape skins and repurpose by-products from the winemaking process, aiming to reduce waste to a bare minimum.
Water is precious in Marlborough, so we use cutting-edge water treatment systems that allow us to separate solids and reuse water, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
We’re big on recycling. All our packaging materials, including lightweight glass bottles and cartons, are recycled to further lessen our environmental impact.
